Has anyone read this book? What do you think? I am almost to the end of it and in the words of some of the people quoted in the book, if the truths discovered by Mr. Siljander about the common grounds between the Bible and the Qur’an are true this is revolutionary. I read the text of President Obama’s speech yesterday and some of the thoughts and ideas he expressed in Cairo could have been ripped from the pages of this book. The idea of common truths in the Bible and the Qur’an, as well as Jewish religious books is quite frankly unsettling to my own established Evangelical mind, as it was for the Congressman when he first encountered these truths. His search began after a speaker at the National Prayer Breakfast quoted from the Qur’an. It led him to some startling findings that have the potential to bring Muslims and Christians together as never in our history. Not that a Muslim is ever going to be a Christian or vice versa. But we can understand that we all apparently have the same objective, to be surrendered to God. And that the Jesus of the Bible is very likely the same Jesus mentioned multiple times in the Qur’an. From what I have learned in this book, I am probably a good Muslim myself, although a spiritual one, not a cultural one. Read it for yourself, but do so with an open mind. Set aside preconceived notions of what you have heard about Muslims and the Qur’an and allow yourself to accept the possibility that there is more common ground between Islam and Christianity than there are things to divide us. If we are ever to have peace with the Middle East it will be because of ideas and beliefs such as those expressed in this book and not at the end of a gun barrel.
Mark D. Siljander : A Deadly Misunderstanding
A Congressman’s quest to bridge the Muslim-Christian Divide
When Mark approach me with his book I was deeply moved. When so many forces stepped in the way of distracting from the beauty of the book’s message through supposedly legal means, I was shocked. This book should be on national bestseller lists. President Obama should become aware that there is an American that has been doing one of the most masterful jobs in the history of diplomacy. Let’s allow Mark do the work he was meant and gifted to do and support his cause by sharing this book and his message. Then we can go to bed knowing we have done our part to help make this world a better place for us to live and enjoy life no matter our origin or religion. Because in the end no one can escape that life is a gift from God to be appreciated as the opportunity that it is, and in His eyes we are all His children. The only things standing in the way of peace and harmony are rigid beliefs created by man–not God–– that keep us separate. Thank you Mark, for having the courage of your convictions.
